Intrastat reporting is a monthly obligation for businesses who trade cross-borders within the EU (subject to thresholds). As well as letting governments and the EU track trade to collect data, it is also being used to spot VAT fraud.
Like EC sales lists, Intrastat reporting is different from VAT returns but uses much of the same information. Companies need to submit Intrastat declarations when the annual VAT threshold has been reached.
